Her mother comes from Spanish as well as English heritage. Taylor-Joy has four siblings from her father's prior marriage. Buenos Aires was her home up until the time she reached age 6 after which the family moved in Victoria in London. Taylor Joy states that the move was a very difficult experience. She was not willing to learn English and was hoping to move back to Argentina. She had to switch schools to Northlands and then Hill House. Later, she enrolled in Queen's Gate School to study ballet and act in productions of the school. At 16, she quit the school in order to focus on acting full time. Taylor-Joy's desire to become an actor of professional caliber started at a young age.
